一具横卧身体从左下延伸到纸面中央，低垂的脸、伸出的手臂和十字架立柱从两侧向它聚拢。褐色墨线在浅蓝纸上时轻时重，许多轮廓仍保留修订。芬佐尼没有把哀悼整理成封闭场景，而让靠近、承托与迟疑同时停在纸面上。
